Post four years of planning, three years of execution and a delay of almost two years, India’s first indigenous sports car- DC Avanti is finally ready to hit the tarmac next year. To be priced close to INR 40 lacs, the first deliveries of the much-anticipated sports car will commence from March 2015.
The ace design studio plans to manufacture and sell as many as 2,000 Avantis over the next four years, out of which first batch of 500 units is currently under production at firm's facility in Pune. Dilip Chhabria, the man behind Avanti said that they have already pre-booked 450 cars, of which 300 are export orders.
The Avanti measures 4,550 mm in length, 1,965 mm in width, and 1,200 mm in height. With a good 170 mm ground clearance, the sports car would be able to negotiate well with the Indian roads. Propelling the Avanti is a Renault-sourced 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, good for 260 bhp of max power and 360 Nm of peak torque, mated a 6-speed manual transmission. The top speed of the India-made sports car is electronically limited to 180 kmph, though the 0-100 km/h sprint is reasonably good at about 7 seconds. For efficient braking, the car will come equipped with 330 mm ventilated disc at the front and 295mm at the rear, along with Continental-developed Anti-lock braking system (ABS) as a standard feature.
