Three years since Audi R8 has been ruling over the super car scene, the company has finally decided to launch the GT Version of the same to compete straight against Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera and Porsche 911 GT3. This new version would equip the super car Audi R8 with a V10 series engine with stiffer chassis, revised aerodynamics and weight-saving technology on roll. Audi did not originally consider GT to be a part of R8 but it wanted to fall in the line up of Porsche 911 GT3. In terms of Optional equipment, the car would now be equipped with a bolt-in roll cage, four-point race belts, fire extinguisher and kill switch for the battery.

R8 GT is a modified version  of R8 V10’s direct-injection 5.2-litre petrol engine but with an enhanced exhaust system. The GT is characterised by red cylinder heads, that helps deliver an additional power output of 42bhp, at 560bhp and bestows G8 with an attractive power-to-weight ratio of 367bhp per tonne which stands 39bhp per tonne more than that in 911 GT3 RS. This GT version would also enhance the Torque by 0.967kgm to 55.025kgm at 6500rpm.

There would be a viscous coupling that would help source these additional deliverable to all the four wheels equally. The standard torque split provided by this viscous coupling is going to have a 15 front and a 85 back split, which would be elevated to 30/70 in case when more front traction is needed.

Audi has been claiming recently that Audi R8 GT would have a great acceleration that could hit the 100kph mark in just 3.6sec, that would be 0.3sec faster than the R8 V10 and also 0.4sec faster than 911 GT3 RS.

The GT version have been made 95 kgs lighter with the usage of arbonfibre liftback, reduced engine bay sound deadening, fixed rear wing, modified brake calipers and a lighter windscreen fashioned from thinner glass. Also the glasses in the front and the rear windows have been replaced by Polycarbonate.

In terms of look the R8’s chassis has been redone that would now sport firmer springs and dampers that helps to lower the ride height by 10mm. External looks have been differentiated by carbonfibre ‘winglets’ and a front splitter. In all the original features of R8 V10 have been reworked with a more matt greyish feel. Internally, the instrument graphics are done with a newly designed shift lever.
