Chevrolet Beat, one of the latest entrant from General Motors is soon going to get a Diesel version. Although there are no exact details on the launch date of the car, but it is speculated to launch by early next year. Chevrolet Beat has received an overwhelming response in India and is currently available only in Petrol version.
The new Diesel version would sport a 1.0L common-rail diesel engine, and is assumed to be priced 15-20% higher than the Petrol variant. The new Diesel version would offer better fuel economy and drivability. This is mainly attributed to a higher torque output of the Diesel engine, when compared to a Petrol version.
The engine for the upcoming car is speculated to have been developed at the Bangalore facility of the company. The all new 5 door Diesel Beat would not only cater to the domestic market, but would also be aimed at the market overseas.
The Talegaon plant of the company, presently has a production capacity of 160,000 engines. The company sources hinted, that by August-September'2010, both the manufacturing units (Talegaon and Halol (near Ahmedabad)) would start working in full-shifts.
GM India, recently received a stupendous response to its LPG-powered Spark, and it wishes to continue the trend of investing into cleaner and economical fuels in future. Sources from the company revealed that they are looking into the possibilities of a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) version of Beat.
