Datsun, a low cost brand of Nissan has recently announced the launching of Go hatch on 19th March, 2014. The brand that made its global debut in India in the month of July, is also bringing its Go+ MPV in the coming months. The Go hatch is based on the Micra platform and will be priced below Rs 4 lakh. The car was unveiled in the 2014 Auto Expo in four eye-catching colors namely Red, Blue, White and Silver. Seeing the expected price range, the car will be up against the likes of Hyundai Eon and Maruti Suzuki Alto K10.
But what makes Go special, is the intelligent use of interior space, and best in class boot space, Ya! You heard it right, best in class: the boot compartment is capable of holding a sizeable luggage in its 296-litre capacity. In terms of external dimensions, the Go hatch has an edge over its competitors. In terms of external dimensions (LX B X H), the Go hatch measures 3785mm X 1635mm X 1485mm. When compared with Eon, the Go hatch is 290mm longer, 85 mm wider while its just 15mm shorter, but clearly offers more knee-room and shoulder room. Moreover, when one compares Go with Alto K10, the Maruti Suzuki's hatch does not stand at any point. Go is 165mm longer, 160mm wider and 25mm taller. Interestingly, it even offers more headroom along with more knee and shoulder room. With a larger wheelbase of 2450mm, the car offers a spacious cabin. The seats are wide and comfortable and provides a joy in ride.
Moving on to the dashboard and instrumental control, the Go comes fitted with minimum plastic joints and offers fine finish. The dual tone dashboard comes with some extra space compartments which can be used to hold magazines and other important stuffs. The dashboard mounted gearbox along with placement of handbrake below the dash, allows an extended passenger seat which further adds more space for both the driver and co-driver, a feature absent on both the entry level cars from Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki.
The instrument cluster gets a digital tachometer along with distance to empty, average and current fuel efficiency, a feature again missed in Alto k10. However, the steering wheel doesn’t support any kind of adjustment. The Go hatch is first of its kind to get a mobile docking station where you can mount your smartphone and can connect it with audio system. Surprisingly there isn't any CD or radio player. The music system can only be used by connecting mobile or i-pod/ipad through AUX. In terms of safety, the Go hatch lacks ABS and airbags, while in the Eon one can find a set of airbags that adds extra safety for driver and front row passenger. Under the hood, this small car houses 1.2-litre, petrol engine developing a power of 64bhp. The engine is mated to five-speed manual transmission and delivers a fuel economy of 20kmpl.
The car is scheduled to be launched on 19th March, so stay tunned for the live updates on CarDekho.
