GM recalls 1.5 million cars due to faulty fluid system

General Motors, one of the world's leading car-makers, today recalled around 1.5 million units of its vehicles worldwide due to a fire threat posed by faulty wind shield wiper fluid heating system. The recall includes more than a dozen different models of GM manufactured during year 2006-2009 period including the Buick Lucerne, several Cadillac models and the Hummer H2 SUV.
The company said in a statement that its technicians will redirect the fluid system by removing the heater. With this, the owners will also receive 100 dollars in compensation as the feature will be disabled. According to company there are no injuries so far from this defect, however, it is aware of 5 incidents of fire due to this fault, so far.
The US is the most affected market with this recall as it accounts for more than 90 percent of the total cars recalled worldwide. The year 2010 has been a year of major vehicle recalls as just 3 months back Japan based leading car makers Honda and Toyota recalled more than 10 million units in total of their respective car models.
