The most awaited pan-India Motor Show is just a day ahead, meanwhile Hyundai India has finally introduced its highly anticipated Grand i10 sedan in India. Christened as "Hyundai Xcent", the compact sedan will directly compete against the likes of Honda Amaze, Maruti Swift Dzire and others.
Almost every major car maker is high with its preparations pre-event, and is putting efforts to make the show a grand affair. The list of launches and unveiling is just being added day after day as the event is reached nearer.
As far as compact sedan segment is concerned, it is being populated at a very fast pace. In the month of September'13, Hyundai had launched grand i10 hatch in the Indian car market, and now based on the same hatch, the company has introduced a sub-4 meter sedan model.
Speaking at the launch, BS Seo, Managing director & CEO Hyundai India said, “The Xcent is a world class product developed for the Indian market.
We at HMIL are proud to launch the modern family sedan in India. Xcent symbolises Hyundai’s commitment to Indian consumers by offering high standards of quality, durability and reliability. Xcent with its excellent value proposition and its unique first-in-segment features will serve a wide rangle of customers in India raising the benchmark in the segment”.
The compact sedan competes against the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze, which are by now dominating the segment. So this time it would be a great watch to observe the market alterations that will certainly happen after the Grand i10 sedan launches in India. The same vehicle will be put on display at the company's stand at the Auto Expo'14. Apart from this, the new Santa Fe, Grand i10 and i20 based WRC cars are also decided to be put on display.
The sedan is available with both petrol and diesel guise. The car comes powered with 1.2-litre engine producing 82bhp and 114Nm of top torque. The oil burner gets a 1.1-litre engine that belts out 70bhp of power and 160Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated with five-speed manual transmission, while the petrol also gets an option of 4-speed automatic gearbox as well.
Moving to the exteriors, the sedan resembles a lot to the Grand i10 hatch, which makes the front fascia almost similar but it is distinguishable with minor modifications at its front. The rear gets a little higher stance that overall kind of raises the back of the sedan.
