Hyundai i10 Diesel to compete against Ford Figo

The auto industry is soon to witness an interesting turf between a leading American and Korean Car maker, it is widely speculated that Hyundai Motor is planning to launch the Diesel variant of its extremely popular hatchback Hyundai i10 in order to compete against the latest entrant in the automobile market Ford Figo.

Top officials from the company including  Hyundai Motor India (HMI) MD H W Park recently intimated that the company is extremely cautious and is made to be on toes due to Ford Figo and that the company is not so worried about Nissan Micra. The company is taking all measures to compete against Ford Figo and the newly launched Maruti Wagon R.

The exact details on the time line for the launch of Hyundai i10 diesel is not specified, but the launch is expected to be soon. The Petrol version of the car is currently manufactured at the company's plant in Chennai, that has an annual production capacity of 6 Lakh units. The current line up of cars from this Korean auto maker includes Hyundai i10, Hyundai i20, Santro Xing, Hyundai Getz, Hyundai Verna, Hyundai Accent and Sonata Transform.

Hyundai Santa Fe, an SUV is going to be launched soon in the Indian market. The car would be introduced as a completely built in unit and would be launched in the fourth quarter of this year.

Mr. Park mentioned that the company has plans to launch a new model and a face-lifted model every year. However the company discarded all speculations around the phase out of Hyundai Santro and said that the car is till very much in demand. In the near future the company is eager to launch a car that could be positioned just below Hyundai Santro.
