The new generation of the Renault Kwid could go on sale in India sometime in 2025

2024 Dacia Spring (Renault Kwid EV)

  • The Dacia Spring is essentially the electric Renault Kwid for the European markets with some design changes.

  • New Dacia Spring EV gets 2024 Duster-like fascia, including the grille design and Y-shaped LED DRLs.

  • It also gets a new cabin with dual digital displays as seen on the Duster.

  • Other features include connected car tech, all-four power windows and manual AC.

  • Safety tech comprises a few ADAS features and rear parking sensors.

  • Comes with a 26.8 kWh battery pack with a WLTP-claimed range of over 220 km.

  • India launch of the Spring EV-based electric Kwid remains uncertain.

Renault’s budget-oriented global brand, Dacia, has revealed the new-generation Spring EV for the European markets. The Dacia Spring is essentially the electric Renault Kwid with some cosmetic tweaks inside and out, and hence the new one also previews the new generation of the entry-level hatchback sold in India. We expect Renault to bring the 2024 Spring EV to India as the new-gen Kwid sometime in 2025.

Retains Key Design Elements

2024 Dacia Spring (Renault Kwid EV) front

The new Spring EV, at first glance, looks like a sized-down version of the third-gen Dacia Duster SUV. It gets the same sleeker grille with twin chrome strips running from the Y-shaped LED DRLs to the Dacia logo in the centre, which acts as a flap for the charging port. Lower down, it now has smaller and sharper headlight clusters and a massive bumper sporting the air inlets above and below it.

Although its profile looks largely the same as the outgoing model, the new-gen hatchback looks taller than the previous iteration. You can also notice that the wheel arches, housing the 15-inch wheels with stylised black covers, are more squared off. The roof rails have been done away with, making it more aerodynamic and thus improving its range.

At the back, its taillight design mimics the Y-shaped LED DRLs located up front. The new rear lighting setup is connected by a chunky black element having the ‘Dacia’ moniker spelled out over it.

A More Upmarket Interior

The resemblance with the Duster is apparent inside as well. The Spring EV also gets variant-specific white/copper accents around the AC vents and the Y-shaped inserts in the central AC vents. Even the steering wheel seems to be the same one as seen on the new SUV while the gear selector is positioned in the centre console. Thankfully, the Spring EV has been provided with physical buttons and rotary dials for the climate control.

What Features Does It Get?

In terms of comforts and conveniences, the Spring EV packs a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a 10-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity, all four power windows, manual AC, and connected car tech. The EV also comes with the vehicle-to-load (V2L) feature, which makes it an energy source to power other electrical devices.

The electric hatchback’s safety net packs rear parking sensors and various advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) including autonomous emergency braking (AEB), traffic sign recognition, driver attentiveness alert, and lane keep assist.

Details Of Its Electric Powertrain

The Dacia Spring EV gets a 26.8 kWh battery pack suitable for a WLTP-claimed range of over 220 km. It is available with a choice of two electric motors depending upon the variant selected: 46 PS and 66 PS.

2024 Dacia Spring (Renault Kwid EV) charging

The new Dacia Spring EV is equipped as standard with a 7 kW AC charger that can power up the battery from 20 to 100 percent on a 15A plug point in less than 11 hours, or in just 4 hours from a 7 kW wallbox unit. A 30 kW DC charger enables fast charging from 20 to 80 percent in 45 minutes.
