Land Rover Defender to be Manufactured Locally in Sri-Lanka

Land Rover is all set to open a new facility in Sri Lanka to locally manufacture its vehicles. The Work on the project is in process and about to start in sometime. The reason behind this step is so to make vehicles more accessible and affordable to a wider market. Additionally, the company also plans to manufacture a baby SUV to be sold all around the globe.
Land Rover Defender will be locally produced by a Sri Lanka based facility named as SML Frontier Automotive Pvt. Ltd, owned by Sathosa Motors and Sheran Fernando. Sri Lanka's Daily News reported that the production is slated to commence this year and a new production unit is being developed for Defender production. According to the Sumal Perera, Charmian, Access Engineering and SML Frontier Automotive (Pvt) Ltd said that, “ Preliminary work of the project has already been completed and the project is expected to commence shortly. The proposed project would make Land Rover Vehicles available and affordable to a wider spectrum of the market”.
Land Rover Defender SUV is running around the globe for many decades. Although, the car has received regular updates time to time, it is quite difficult to distinguish the current Defender with the first generation Defender. The car has been regularly getting updates under the hood as well.At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Land Rover Defender ( with its 2.2 L diesel engine developing 95.17 PS) was put on display with a 100 Ah battery pack, which was fixed to four all electric research models. Axeon has manufactured a battery system for the Land Rover Defender 110 models, which makes the vehicle a zero emission SUV.
