Maruti Suzuki that launched the much-anticipated Celerio hatchback at the recently held 2014 Auto Expo, has received an overwhelming response from buyers across the nation. Advance bookings for Celerio cross 14000 within 2 weeks from Launch - Recorded 1000 bookings a day.
What makes it more interesting that the AMT version of Celerio gets better response from buyers as compared to its manual variants. The AMT Celerio accounts for 51 per cent of total bookings; this has been for the first time that any Auto variant of car is more on demand than the manual. However, it leads to increase in its waiting period, as the company imports this AMT gearbox.
Maruti Celerio comes as a replacement for the aging A-Star and Estilo hatchbacks in India. The recent deduction in excise duty has helped the company to price this model very competitive in the market. The new Celerio with an automated manual transmission is 5 per cent more fuel efficient as compared to the manual version. It returns an impressive fuel economy of 23.1 kmpl (ARAI Certified), which also played an important role behind the success of this model.
Under the hood, the new Maruti Suzuki Celerio gets the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder K-Series petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 67bhp and 90Nm of top torque. Power is transmitted to front wheels via a new Automatic manual transmission gearbox. It also come in manual transmission (five speed).
