Maruti SX4 Hybrid launched in India

Maruti Suzuki, India’s car market leader today launched its two new products – Maruti SX4 Hybrid and Eeco Charge. The company handed over the first lot of 2 Maruti SX4 Hybrid cars and 1Eeco Charge to Mr Arvinder Singh Lovely, Honourable Minister of Transport for NCT Delhi. The vehicles intended to use at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games were handed over by Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, in the city.
Maruti has made ready 14 future technology vehicles for the use at Commonwealth Games. These vehicles include 10 Maruti SX4 Hybrid Cars and 4 Maruti Suzuki ‘Eeco Charge’ vehicles. The balance vehicles will be handed over to the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee for use by the Officials during the Commonwealth Games. Maruti has developed the SX4 Hybrid vehicles and ‘Eeco Charge’ concept vehicles as a part of the demonstration fleet. The demonstration of the fleet of SX4 Hybrids and ‘Eeco Charge’ vehicles at the Commonwealth Games 2010, is in line with the ambitious NHPP and MNRE program outline.

On a sedan platform, Maruti SX4 Hybrid is a Full Parallel Hybrid with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). The model presents a case of evolution of transportation system with elements of flexibility, style and eco-friendliness. SX4 Hybrid provides mobility solution in an eco-friendly but stylish manner.

The hybrid system of this new model of Maruti incorporates an electric motor and also the twin clutch arrangement with the advanced technology of Lithium-ion battery. This model has got the combination of a 1.2 litre K-series petrol engine and also a 50 kW electric motor. The five -speed Automated Manual Transmission is also there in this stylish model. This combination will offer high fuel economy along with reduced emissions. The new Maruti SX4 Hybrid has also got the capability of running only on its electric motor. This supports zero emission modes in city driving. The Maruti SX4 hybrid offers 25 per cent more fuel efficiency compared to that of the conventional gasoline vehicle.

Earlier, Maruti had launched the CNG fitted Maruti SX4 variant in India for making an impression on the mileage conscious car lovers. The model had advanced CNG factory fitted kit which promised overall engine performance to be higher, especially the mileage and power. Maruti’s popular sedan model Maruti SX4 in India meets latest BS IV emission norms. Later on Maruti again launched two variants of Maruti SX4 which were packed with the automatic transmission gearboxes.
