And here comes the much anticipated Mercedes-Benz A-Class premium hatchback, which has introduced an all new segment in the country, which will later be joined by BMW 1-Series and Volvo V40 Cross Country. Launched both in the petrol and diesel versions, the all new Mercedes-Benz A-Class returns the mileage of 15.5kmpl and 20.07kmpl respectively. While the A180 Sport (Petrol) is priced at Rs. 22.73 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), the diesel engine powered A180 CDI (diesel) costs Rs. 21.93 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
So with such pricing, the A-Class becomes one of the most affordable Mercedes-Benz cars ever sold in our country. However, Mercedes-Benz also sells B-Class at an affordable pricing, that is a niche product rolled out for touring lovers. Initially, the A-Class will be brought via the completely built unit (CBU) route, making it priced a little over than it could have been, if assembled locally. However, Mercedes-Benz has already said that they would begin assembling the A-Class and the B-Class models at its Chakan Plant, near Pune, so to make them more affordable. The A-Class has been offered with two engine options- 1.6-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel, both mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox as standard.
Mr. Eberhard Kern, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “With the new A-Class Mercedes-Benz now pioneers the Compact Luxury segment in India which reflects the changing customer trend of compact being equated to cool and trendy. The A-Class embodies the changing preference of the youth in today’s social milieu who increasingly prefer compact luxury. The A-Class is also the safest cars with 11 drive assistance systems; and is India’s most fuel efficient luxury car with 1000 kms run in a full tank of diesel, having a Cd of 0.27. The A-Class boasts of endless equipment options including a world-class in-car infotainment system. We are confident that the dynamic design and class leading performance is sure to make the A-Class the choice of the new generation.”
Mr. Eberhard Kern further added, “The young India today desires compact luxury; the A-Class addresses this need in the mobility area. The overwhelming response of the A-Class on the social media even before its launch reaffirms that the A-Class will carve a niche for itself in the luxury automotive domain in India. 2013 is the year of offensive for Mercedes-Benz India and the A-Class’ launch reiterates our promise of bringing the most fascinating cars for our valued customers in India.”
