Nissan Micra, the new hatchback will soon be exported from India to Europe during the month of September. Micra has the possibility of scoring 4-star Euro NCAP rating. Though the company itself has not yet confirmed this, a renowned auto magazine says that Nissan Micra was unable to get the 5th star because of the revised system of crash safety by NCAP .

Vincent Cobee, the project Director for Nissan Micra, said, “We want to be competitive on safety, but to achieve the new five-star rating becomes outrageous. We are making no definitive statement on the rating we expect, but let us say that three stars would not put us in the right competitive set.” He further added saying, “The new Micra will be a value-driven proposition at the lower end of the supermini class, with a high level of features at a slightly lower price than before.”

Suresh Rangarajan who is the official spokesperson of Nissan India was also contacted who said, “We have not announced our specifications as yet. However wish to confirm that the car will be equipped with the standard Nissan safety norms that we adopt globally.”

An auto enthusiast says, “The 5-star rating does not make an iota of difference to Indian car buyers. As far as safety features like front airbags, ABS, side curtain airbags, stability control, etc are generally available in top-end versions (of any hatchback car) in the county. Furthermore, the volumes are pretty less in such segments.”
