Tata Nexon CNG Could Offer These 5 Things Over The Maruti Brezza CNG

The Tata Nexon underwent a significant facelift in September 2023, receiving not only a refreshed appearance and a host of new features but also the option of a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with its turbo-petrol engine. The Nexon, however, is due to receive another major update in the form of a CNG powertrain soon. Tata confirmed its development by showcasing a concept form at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Expo and revealed some key details of the same. Here are five things the CNG version of the Nexon could offer over its direct rival - the Maruti Brezza CNG.
Stylish Design Elements
Though the Maruti Brezza has a strong and mature design, the Nexon stands out with its more stylish design elements. These include its new set of LED DRLs, aerodynamically styled alloy wheels, and sporty silhouette from the sloped roofline. In contrast, the Brezza adopts a more traditional design approach, resulting in a boxy SUV appearance.

More Features, Including Bigger Infotainment
The top-spec variant of the Tata Nexon CNG could feature amenities such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 9-speaker JBL sound system, and a single-pane sunroof. In terms of safety, it is expected to include six airbags as standard and a 360-degree camera.
Meanwhile the Brezza CNG gets a smaller 7-inch touchscreen infotainment, single-pane sunroof, and 6-speaker Arkamys sound system. In terms of safety, the Brezza CNG comes with dual front airbags, and a rear parking camera.
Twin Cylinder Technology
As seen with other Tata CNG cars, the Nexon CNG will also feature twin-cylinder technology, incorporating two smaller CNG cylinders instead of one large one. These cylinders are positioned under the boot bed, moving the spare wheel beneath the body of the Nexon and can be accessed from the exterior. This configuration results in a usable boot space of 230 litres inside the Nexon CNG.
The Brezza on other hand gets a single CNG cylinder placed inside the boot itself, taking up most of the boot space.
Turbocharged Petrol-CNG Engine
The Tata Nexon CNG will be the first CNG offering in India to come with a turbocharged petrol engine. Though the power figures are yet to be announced, we believe that it would offer more power over the Brezza CNG. In petrol-form, the Tata 1.2-litre turbo unit makes 120 PS and 170 Nm. For reference, the Brezza CNG uses a non-turbo 1.5-litre petrol-CNG powertrain which makes 87.8 PS and 121.5 Nm (in CNG mode).
The Nexon CNG will also likely come with the direct start in CNG mode function, which is not offered with the Brezza CNG.

Option Of CNG Automatic
The Nexon CNG could also be the first CNG subcompact SUV in India to come with the option of an AMT (automatic) transmission. Recently, Tata became the first brand to offer the option of an AMT transmission with a CNG powertrain in the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor.
The Brezza CNG on the other hand only comes with the option of a 5-speed manual transmission, and there are no signs of Maruti introducing a CNG-automatic option.
Expected Prices
The Tata Nexon CNG could carry a premium of up to Rs 1 lakh over its corresponding regular petrol variants. The Nexon’s turbo-petrol variants are priced from Rs 8.15 lakh to Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). For reference, the Maruti Brezza CNG is priced between Rs 9.29 lakh and Rs 12.10 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
