2013 has not been a good year for car manufacturers, as passenger cars sales reported a negative growth. Amidst, carmakers sees huge potential in the Indian car market and are ready to explore the growing industry by launching several new products. 2014 will see several new vehicles including SUVs, sedans, hatchbacks and MPVs. Buyers in the country consider sedans to be the perfect family car, which offers enough space to seat five adults and boot to carry decent volume. To make things easier, we cover a list of sedan cars to be launched in India in 2014.
Fiat Linea Facelift
Fiat India has recently launched the 'Classic' sedan in the Indian car market, which opens a gate to bring in the facelifted version of the company's flagship sedan Linea. It is expected that the company will introduce the vehicle at the next year's Indian Auto Expo, alongside Jeep brand and Abarth Punto. Exteriors of the sedan will get lots of chrome, while the rear number plate will be placed at the bootlid to offer more contemporary look. Inside the cabin, Linea will get the revamped and more upmarket dashboard and centre console. The vehicle will also feature the company's bigger 1.6-litre Multijet diesel engine that develops 103.5bhp.
Ford Fiesta Facelift
Fiesta has been the most applauded sedans in India and is known for its styling and excellent fuel economy. With the increase in competition, the sales of this sedan has dropped and the company is planning to introduce the facelift version of the Fiesta in India to regain the lost market share. The vehicle is expected to be launched by the second half of 2014. The front facade of the car seems to be inspired from Aston Martin, while the rear end also gets some updates to make it look more modern. The interiors of the car also expected to receive some subtle changes. Mechanically, the car is expected to remain the same.
Hyundai compact saloon (Grand i10 based)
We reported earlier that Hyundai will launch a compact sedan based on Grand i10 and a compact SUV in India in 2014-15. While the SUV will come in 2015, the sedan version has already been spotted testing on the Indian roads, indicating the vehicle will soon make its way to showrooms. It is expected to be unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, and will be launched by the festive season. The vehicle will share the interior components and styling cues from Grand i10 sedan. Hyundai compact sedan will be made available in both petrol and diesel guise- a 1.2-litre petrol and 1.1-litre diesel. It will compete against the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze.
Hyundai ELantra Facelift
With the introduction of Skoda Octavia and updated Cruze, the competition in the premium sedan segment gets furious. Seeing this Hyundai is also planning to introduce the facelift version of its Elantra sedan in the Indian car market in 2014. The new model comes with a refreshed design and improved product features. New Elantra is 20mm longer than the soon to be out-dated model, while the wheelbase remains the same. The company has given a redesigned 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels, new front bumper, radiator grille, LED light guide and projection headlamps to the sedan. The rear end gets a new black, two-tone rear bumper and LED Lamps. Inside the cabin, the saloon also gets some styling updates and now features rear seat air vent, 3.5-inch OLED display and ventilation seats. It will be launched by the mid of 2014.
Mercedes-Benz S-Class
Mercedes-Benz India is all set to bring their flagship model- the S Class in the country at the next year's Indian Auto Expo. The new model comes equipped with a series of comfort, safety and advanced technological features. It could not generate huge numbers for the company, but it will certainly be a right choice for business class in India. Internationally, the S Class is being offered in two engine options- a 3-litre V6 diesel and 5.5-litre bi-turbo with an AMG tag. Both the engines will be mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission.
Audi A3
The Ingolstadt based luxury carmaker will launch its cheapest car- A3 premium compact sedan in India. It will be unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Show and is expected to be priced around Rs. 22-25 lakh. The sedan is expected to get the 1.8-litre TFSI petrol and 1.8-litre or 2.0-litre TDI powertrains. Audi could also introduce the A3 with 1.4-litre TFSI engine producing 140PS.
Mercedes-Benz CLA
The German luxury carmaker will further increase its compact line-up by launching the all-new CLA Class in India. It will be unveiled during the next year's Indian Auto Expo and will directly target the young entrepreneur. CLA Class will be positioned between the A-Class and C-Class and is likely to costs around Rs. 23-27 lakh. It is expected to carryover the A-Class engine line-up comprising of a 2.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.6-litre diesel motor.
Maruti Suzuki YL1 sedan (SX4 replacement)
India's largest car manufacturer will launch an all-new mid-size sedan, which will replace the current generation SX4. The SX4 sedan has never been a top-selling sedan and the company aims to replace this model to introduce a new model. Codenamed YL1, the compact sedan has been spied testing quite number of time in India and it will be unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. Moreover, the company will launch the new sedan soon after the Expo or by the end of the first quarter of 2014.
Nissan Sunny Facelift
Like new Micra, Nissan India is also planning to give a complete makeover to its mid-sized sedan, Sunny. The facelifted sedan is expected to hit the Indian shores by the second half of 2014. It is expected that the model will see maximum changes to its exteriors, while inside the cabin it will recieve some upgrades. The vehicle will features a much wider grille and a headlamps. The company has also added a lots of chrome to the sedan, making it look more classy. On the inside, the Sunny is expected to get an upgraded centre console and revamped instrument cluster.
Tata compact sedan
Tata, India's leading carmaker will introduce a compact sedan which will compete against the likes of Swift Dzire, Amaze and upcoming Hyundai Grand i10 based sedan. It is expected to be unveiled at the next year's Indian Auto Expo and will be launched by the festive season. Nothing has been confirmed about the styling and mechanics of the car.
Toyota Corolla
The Japanese auto maker, Toyota will launch the new Corolla in the country by the mid of 2014. The premium sedan will first unveil at the next year's Indian Auto Expo. Based on the Furia Concept car, it will get two petrol engines- a 1.6-litre and a 1.8-litre. Both vehicles will be offered with a six-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox.
