Figo 2015-2019 1.2P Base MT Review
Indian automobile buyers have a lot of craze for hatchbacks and the main reasons for them being the size, design elements and price as well. Several new models have been launched this year in this segment and now, it is the turn of Ford India to impress its buyers further. This brand has now come up with the second generation version of its popular, Figo hatchback with some design and cosmetic upgrades. This newly launched model is available in a few variants with both petrol and diesel engine options. This particular trim named Ford Figo 1.2P Base MT comes with a low price tag in the entire lineup and has a 1.2-litre petrol mill under its hood. This unit is paired with a five speed manual transmission gear box and can make 86.8bhp along with delivering torque of 112Nm torque. It resembles a lot with Figo Aspire compact sedan both looks and features wise as well. The rear end is pretty sporty in terms of design and there are bright tail lamps housed on either sides of the boot lid. The set of steel wheels and a character line between tail and head lamps are the key attributes that makes its side appealing. The sloping windscreen merges with the bonnet, while the latter further highlighted with company's oval shaped insignia. The black finish to its radiator grille is just another good effort of the manufacturer to turn its front fascia more impressive. Contemporary style combined with classiness, is what describes its interiors. Occupants can find huge space inside and the features that keep them comfortable include a manually operated air conditioner, guide me home headlamps, 100% foldable rear seat, and low fuel warning light as well.
Exteriors:
This car has remarkably good exterior dimensions that makes for ample space inside as well. Its entire length comes to about 3886mm and the width is 1695mm. The height and wheelbase measures around 1525mm and 2491mm respectively. To describe its looks, it is just the same as the Aspire compact sedan except for the big trunk in the rear. At the back, it has a couple of fog lamps and a well proportioned tail gate with logo on it. The luminous tail light cluster combines turn indicators. A bit taller in size, its side profile looks rather decent and includes expressive lines, which only makes it look eye catching. The wheel arches are flared up and have a set of 14 inch steel wheels equipped to it. These rims get tubeless radials tyres of size 175/65 R14, which are specifically developed to run on any surface. Other features that are in black color are door handles, B-pillars and driver side external mirror. Meanwhile, its frontage carries perfect design elements that can easily lure enthusiasts. Especially, the large radiator grille with black horizontal slats and the head light cluster with chrome bezel remain the main attraction. Also, it gets both the bumpers in body color.
Interiors:
This trim has amazing single tone charcoal black interiors that is quite decent. Right from dashboard to door panels, everything is painted in black color. The entire cockpit carries a modernistic look. On the dashboard, there are these advanced equipments like the logo embossed steering wheel, circular air vents and an instrument cluster. Also, it includes a glove box that is designed with ample space for holding several things. Its seats offer very good comfort and they are covered with premium fabric upholstery. These are integrated with headrests that are adjustable at front. Meanwhile, the second row seat comes with folding function for added convenience.
Engine and Performance:
This entry level variant is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol drivetrain that has a total displacement capacity of 1196cc. This unit comes with four cylinders that further include 16 valves. It is also based on a double overhead camshaft valve configuration. This mill has the capability of churning out 86.8bhp maximum power at 6300rpm and generates torque of 112Nm at 4000rpm. As per ARAI certification, it can produce a mileage of 18.16 Kmpl on the highways. But this figure comes down to about 14 Kmpl under standard driving conditions. A 5-speed manual transmission gear box is skillfully paired to this motor that distributes power to its front wheels. A mere 15 seconds is quite good for this trim to cross the speed barrier of 100 Kmph.
Braking and Handling:
This hatch is offered with the best of handling characteristics. First of all, it is the electronic power assisted steering column that simplifies maneuverability on uneven roads and in peak traffic conditions as well. It has a reliable braking system that performs exceptionally well. For the front wheels, there are ventilated discs and the rear ones have sturdy drum brakes. Meanwhile, what aids the vehicle to remain stable and to make the drive smooth is its suspension system that includes anti roll bar, coil springs as well as twin gas and oil filled shock absorbers. An independent McPherson strut is fitted on the front axle and a semi independent twist beam is used for the rear one.
Comfort Features:
Being an entry level trim, it has limited aspects that aids in giving comfort. Firstly, it comes with a proficient air conditioning unit that is operated manually. With this, the occupants can adjust the cabin temperature as per their requirement. The vehicle's updates are provided by the cluster display, which include distance to empty, maintenance, low fuel and water temperature warning light notifications. The automaker has designed it with a boot compartment of 257 litres. If the passengers require more room for their luggage, they can fold down the rear seat and increase the cargo space. Also, there are variable intermittent wipers fitted to its front windscreen that come with six speed setting. A few more features such as front dome lamp, assist grips, tilt steering wheel, air vents, guide me home headlamps, and driver side ORVM adds to their convenience.
Safety Features:
Only a few protective features are available in this lineup. It has auto door lock, front and rear three point seat belts, while an airbag for driver is a plus point. Most importantly, it comes with a strong body structure made of high strength steel, which can reduce impact force and provide security.
Pros:
1. External design is quite attractive.
2. Good braking and handling characteristics.
Cons:
1. Very few comfort aspects are available.
2. Safety standards should be improved.
