- Audi A3 Cabriolet Open-air Driving Fun Comes at a CostFirst I would like to make it clear that Audi A3 Cabriolet is one of the best looking convertibles you will see on Indian roads. It gives you an excellent open-air driving pleasure that is unmatched in the class of vehicles it slots in. It provides everything you can expect from 2-door convertible. The 2017 version of my friend which I test drive, comes with LED headlights, hexagonal grille and the revamped dynamic taillights with LED turn indicator. Inside, the equipment features include 7-inch MMI infotainment, leather upholstery and dual-zone climate control which are nothing short of impressive. The highlight point of the car is the hydraulic rooftop which can be electrically operated upto the speed of 50kmph. The carmaker has also tuned down the engine from 1.8L to 1.4L for all the good reasons. The engine feels refined and silent and comes with improved fuel efficiency. But all this comes at a mammoth price of over Rs. 55 lakhs (on road). If you are fond of wind-in-your-hair motoring and money doesn't bother you at all, then shelling out Rs. 16-17 lakhs extra for the tin-top model (against A3 sedan at around Rs. 38 lakhs) will not make you regret your decision. But for me, despite all its brownie points, the A3 Cabriolet has been priced ridiculously.Read MoreWas this review helpful?YesNo
- MY best car Audi A3Four-seat open-top shares most of its engines, transmissions and interior with the A3 hatchback. Its closest rivals are the VW Golf Convertible and the BMW 2 Series Convertible. Others include the VW Beetle Cabriolet and Vauxhall Cascada. The A3 Cabriolet has a lightweight fabric roof as opposed to a folding metal hood, and that helps keep its weight to a minimum. Folding down the roof can be done at speeds of up to 31mph, and the operation takes just 18 seconds from start to finish. Its durable interior, excellent build quality and understated styling are some of the A3s most prized features and are what separate it from others in the class. Our favourite is the powerful but economical 1.4 petrol in Sport trim; a reasonably priced combination that should satisfy most drivers. The roof. Oh yes, the roof. The Cabriolets fabric roof can be retracted in around 18 seconds at the touch of a button. Its a smooth. Audi claims a 0 to 100kph time of 7.8 seconds for the Cabrio as compared to the A3 Sedans 8.61 seconds, and the formers top speed is rated at 242kph.Read MoreWas this review helpful?YesNo
