Cars and two-wheelers to be pricier in Haryana

Haryana state cabinet yesterday decided to increase road tax for two-wheelers and cars in the state. Buyers will now have to pay 3 per cent for cars costing up to Rs 6 lakh, for the cars costing between Rs 6 lakh and 10 lakh, six per cent tax will be charged. Earlier, it was 2 per cent for vehicles costing up to rs 5 lakh, 4 per cent for vehicles in Rs 5-10 lakh range, 6 per cent for Rs 10-20 lakh vehicles, while 8 per cent on vehicles above Rs 20 lakh.

While in the case of two-wheelers, tax on the vehicles costing up to Rs 20,00 will remain the same 2 per cent. Two-wheelers costing above 20,000 and up to Rs 60,000 will be applicable for paying 4 per cent tax. Taxes on the two-wheelers costing above Rs 60,000 to Rs 2 lakh will be 6 per cent, and 8 per cent for the vehicles priced above Rs 2 lakh, according to an official release.

The release further said that the govt of Punjab has already revised its tax rates and is now charging a minimum tax of 6 per cent on four-wheelers from the year 2012. A similar kind of proposal is also under review of the Chandigarh Administration. It further said that the road taxes charged in Delhi too are higher than that of the Haryana.
