Concept Cars Revealed at Geneva Motor Show

Concept Cars Geneva Motor Show Concept cars are futuristic vehicles which give you a wonderful glimpse into the future of the automobile world. Manufacturers use these concept cars to flaunt their design, ideas and technological potential to the world. Carmakers display their flashy concept vehicles at various motor shows all over the world and 2016 Geneva Motor Show is no exception. The 2016 Geneva Motor Show is a host to carmakers from around the globe and a dynamic platform for new concept cars and latest offerings. So let’s have a look at all the concept cars which barged in the Geneva Motor Show and stole the spotlight.

Volkswagen Budd-e Concept

The German brand has showcased its Budd-e concept at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The Volkswagen Budd-e concept first made its world premiere at the Consumer Electric Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January this year. Inspired by the iconic microbus, the Budd-e concept is underpinned by an all-new Modular Electric toolkit (MEB). It features a 101 kWh high-performance lithium ion battery that distributes the electricity to electric motors on each axle, which in turn, make it an All-Wheel Drive vehicle.  The next-gen microbus can long-run up to 373 miles with a top speed of 150 kmph. The noteworthy interior feature include Gesture control 2.0 that incorporates the operating functionality of interior as well as exterior features. The Budd-e also gets the Internet of things (IOT) technology that integrates the Smart Home and Smart Car technologies.

Honda Jazz Keenlight Concept

The Japanese carmaker, Honda has also wrapped off its Jazz Keenlight concept to highlight the customization caliber. The Jazz Keenlight concept uses sleek design elements and unique keenlight colour that refers to a custom copper colour to grab the attention of those who are looking for more style accentuation. The exterior features that are finished in the colour include the front grille, mirror caps, roof spoiler and tailgate decoration. Moreover, the 15-inch alloy wheels have also been dipped in the keenlight colour. 

On the inside also, the concept car continues with keenlight accents on the dashboard, steering wheel, dashboard doorstep garnishes. Under the hood, the Keenlight concept comes equipped with 1.3-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that pumps out 102PS with both manual and CVT gearbox options.

To expand its upscale Vignale trim in Europe, Ford has unveiled Kuga Vignale Concept at the Geneva Motor Show. Mechanically, the new Kuga concept gets its power from a 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine that is capable of churning out the 120PS of power. To make the driving simpler, safer and more enjoyable, Ford has offered SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system, innovative driver assistance technologies and an ergonomic and comfortable interiors. The new Kuga concept has been painted in the Vignale Palazzo Pearl colour. The new concept interior features a unique leather treatment for the seats, doors and instrument panel, with bespoke tuxedo stitching and the leather extending to the boot floor and inside of tailgate.

Subaru has also revealed its XV Crossover concept. The car gets a muscular and aggressive styling with the exterior elements like body cladding, roof rails and stumpy front bumper. The new concept is wider and shorter than the existing XV, however, the wheelbase remains the same. The concept has been presented in an exclusive blue-grey colour namely ‘Glacier Khaki Silica’. A mix of silver, matte black and active orange colour on the hexagonal grille and the matte black body cladding gives it a rugged and sporty appeal.

Nissan X-Trail Premium Concept

Nissan has unveiled the premium version of X-Trail SUV in Concept form. The new Premium concept is based on the current 3rd-gen Nissan X-Trail . The concept has been painted in a matte white shade as the main exterior colour while the bonnet and roof are pied in deep black matte carbon fibre treatment. The white-black contrast starts from the ‘V-motion’ grille and continues through the bonnet and side to the rear, enhancing the X-Trail’s rugged stance. The front skid plate and the 20-inch wheels have been dipped in golden copper colour, while the body cladding and fenders are painted in gloss black. The interior of the concept boasts of leather upholstery with a natural tan and black colour while the black carbon fibre finishing and matt chrome black are used for the dashboard and door trims.

The GT concept has been presented as a dynamic driving sportscar that is entirely a design study and the production version could bring a lot of changes from what we see in the seamless concept. The new concept doesn’t get a boot lid, door handles or door mirror, however, the cabin can be accessed through a touchpad. It is powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo engine that is capable of producing 145PS of power and 205Nm of peak torque. The concept coupe can sprint from standstill to 100 kmph in under 8 seconds and can mark a top speed of 215 kmph. The GT concept features a Rear-Wheel Drive and weighs less than 1000 kgs. The side panels get the dual-monitor setup that sync with two cameras which are mounted behind the wheel arches for an improved visibility.

Skoda VisionS SUV Concept

In a bid to strengthen its SUV range, the Czech automaker, Skoda has unveiled the VisionS Concept at Geneva Motor Show. The upcoming crossover, likely to be called, Skoda Kodiak, is set to be launched around October 2016 in the European market. According to the manufacturer, the design of the VisionS concept is influenced by Czech Cubism and Bohemian crystal art. The concept vehicle gets a four-wheel drive petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain; a 1.4-litre petrol engine capable of producing 154bhp of power with 250Nm of torque and a gearbox mounted electric unit with 54bhp of power and 220Nm of torque. It also incorporates a rear-axle mounted electric motor that can belt out a power output of 114bhp and a peak torque of 270Nm. Overall, the hybrid powertrain can produce a combined power output of 222bhp. The power is transferred to all the  wheels via a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

SsangYong SIV-2 Concept

SsangYong SIV-2 Concept

Ssangyong Motors has demonstrated the SIV-2 Concept where SIV stands for Smart Interface Vehicle and is a mid-sized premium SUV concept. The SIV-2 concept represents the Ssangyong’s vehicle design for the future offerings. Powering the new concept is a mild hybrid powertrain brought in from Ssangyong Motors. The drivetrain features a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine combined with an electric motor that is equipped with a 500Wh lithium-ion battery. The new concept is expected to offer seating capacity for five occupants and will be around the same size of Nissan Qashqai. On the inside, the concept SUV gets a futuristic and luxurious interior with a number of touchscreen panels fixed across the dashboard. The mid-sized SUV will be positioned above the SsangYong Tivoli  in regards to the price and will replace the likes of the Rexton.

Lexus LF-FC Concept

Lexus has displayed the LF-FC concept at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The new vehicle has been described as a sneak peek into the design and technology direction of Lexus' future flagship sedan. The concept was first revealed at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. The LF-FC concept measures 5,300 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width and 1,410 mm in height and the looks are accentuated by the concept’s 21-inch, carbon fibre-reinforced plastic alloy wheels, L-shaped DRLs and new signature spindle grille. 

Inside, the car features many control operations simply by hand gestures instead of touch, also the images for the air conditioning, navigation and multimedia systems are projected into the air right above the centre console. The safety aspects include traffic environment recognition, prediction and judgement functions that help to move driver and passengers to their destinations with minimal efforts.

The VW T-Cross Breeze concept has been unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The German carmaker says that the T-Cross is a glimpse of new and planned SUVs which will be added to its fleet. The T-Cross concept gets more dynamic stance with a wider grille. Furthermore, it features LED lighting accentuated with daytime running light signature at the front. The concept SUV is 4133 mm long, 1798 mm wide, 1563 mm tall and gets a wheelbase of 2565 mm. Also, it measures the boot volume of nearly 300 litres. The SUV has been painted in the ‘Summer Green Metallic’ colour scheme.

Inside, it features the next-generation human-machine interface (HMI) with almost no buttons, an Active Info Display as a new generation of digital instrumentation, new configurable Head Unit and BeatsAudio sound system. The VW T-Cross is powered by a turbocharged 1.0-litre four-cylinder engine that can generate 109 bhp of power. The drivetrain comes mated to a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. It also gets the Start-stop system as standard.

Peugeot Traveller iLab Concept

Peugeot Traveller iLab Concept

Peugeot has unveiled the Traveller iLab Concept at the show which focuses on Advanced connectivity and passenger comfort. Described as a “high mobility cloud access platform”, the iLab concept gets the labelling of a VIP 3.0 shuttle. The iLab concept has been fully loaded with technology including a 32-inch adjustable touchscreen tablet, WiFi hotspot, Cloud access, induction charging stations, a 17-speaker three-amplifier sound system and virtual reality headset. As a better driving assistance, it also gets a next-generation 3D navigation system, road sign recognition and a system that monitors the attention of the driver. 

The exterior elements include a large Traveller i-Lab badging, which covers the window from the B-pillar to the D-pillar and a chrome grille. However, the manufacturer has not confirmed about any of the iLab concept technologies to take place in its production version or any other future offerings.
