Ford to make India its manufacturing hub

Ford, US based car manufacturer is planning to make India as one of its Global hubs in coming years. Ford India has recently launched its compact hatchback model Ford Figo in India with the plans of exporting this model in other markets in future from the country. Besides this the company is also planning to bring its global products in India in coming months.

Company is currently manufacturing the Ford Figo model at its Chennai based plant and after analyzing the response of the Indian buyers the company will look forward to export this vehicles in other word markets. Figo is competing with popular premium hatchbacks like Maruti
Swift, Maruti Ritz, Volkswagen Polo and Fiat Grande Punto.

Alan Mulally, President and CEO, Ford Motor, in a answer to the question asked by ET, said that company is very excited with the response which it is receiving for its Figo model in the country. He also added that the Figo model is very crucial for the company as it will pave the way for other Ford products in India.

Ford India has invested heavily ($ 500 million) to enhance its manufacturing capacity and operations in India. Ford Fiesta, Ford New Ikon, Ford Endeavour are some other famous vehicles of Ford in India. Company also sells a small hatchback Ford Fusion in the country but because of its decreasing sales company is planning to replace it with the recently launched Figo model.
