A top official of General Motors said that GM has increased its production in its two manufacturing facilities. This step has been taken due to the increasing demand and the constantly mounting backlog for company’s Beat and sedan Cruze models, said the official.
General Motors India, Vice-President, P Balendran said that a second shift has been started in Halol and Talegaon plants to meet the rising demand. Balendran also said that the production capacity has also been raised from 6,000 to 12,000 units per month.
Together, the annual production capacity of these Halol and Talegaon plants is 2.25 lakh units. Talegaon which is primarily a small-car plant has an annual capacity of 1.4 lakh units. The Halol plant has the capacity to produce 85,000 units per year.
General Motors Vice President, P. Balendran is quite confident that, expanding manufacturing capacities will definitely help in meeting the zooming demand of the customers. He said that they are confident to clear the backlog for Beat and Cruze by August.
The speedily recovering Indian economy is expected to grow at 8.5 per cent in the current financial year and it also provides the opportunity of attractive markets for the leading automobile companies like GM, Tata and Ford India.
