It's impossible for most of us to present a new set of wheels to our mother on Mother's Day. However, the least we can do is gift her a comfortable backseat in our car. So, here are a few add-ons that can make travelling in the back in the humblest of the cars a five-star experience.
1. Entertainment screen / iPad – Let's start smart. An iPad can be your gaming device, and it can double up as an entertainment system in your car. All you need to do is get a headrest-mounted tablet holder which is available under Rs 500 on various e-commerce sites, and your car's backseat has a cool entertainment system. You can also go for a dedicated headrest-mounted or roof-mounted entertainment system that should cost anywhere between Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000. The iPad can do a lot more things though. But it is up to you to decide what fits your budget.
2. Car seat massager – To make things more comfortable at the back, you can get an electronic car seat massager. It should cost you under Rs 4,000 and is a plug-and-play device. Some massagers are available with multiple functions as well. Just ensure its power cord is long enough to reach the backseat.
3. Sun blinds or window curtains – Luxury cars come with rear window curtains for a good reason. It gives you some privacy and also keeps the sun away. You may not be able to get electronic ones in the aftermarket, but a manual will solve the purpose equally well. The one that moves up and down while rolling windows should cost you Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 for a pair. Magnetic shades are a cheaper alternative and should cost not more than half a thousand rupees.
4. USB charging point – Aren't we always short of charge in our smartphones? How cool will it be to have an USB charging socket right next to your car's seat? USB/power socket extensions make it possible to get one fixed anywhere in a car. Just ensure you don't have wires hanging around here and there.
5. Reading light, magazine holder books – Not all mums are tech-savvy, right? Moreover, they may just want to have some time off from their smartphones! How about having a magazine holder in your car with some interesting reads for her? And a dedicated reading light so that it doesn't matter if it's dark outside. Won't burn a hole in your pocket and will definitely make your mother feel special.
