GM recalls 2,50,000 of crossovers worldwide

General Motors, the US based leading car maker, has announced the recall of as many as 250,000 units of its multi utility vehicles globally to inspect and repair a possible fault in the seat-belts of second-row of the car. According to the company, the seat-belts of the second row of the vehicle could be damaged and not latch.

The recall will affect the GM crossover vehicles manufactured in financial year 2009-2010, that comprises of MUV's like Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia. A major portion of the recalled vehicles is from the American market. The other countries from where a significant number of vehicles has been recalled from Canada and Mexico.

According to company, there is a possibility that the seat-belts buckles could be damaged. when the seat back is returned to an upright position. That could make the buckle appear to latch when it isn't. However, the company has denied of report of any crash case in which the seat-belts of middle row failed to work properly.

Meanwhile in India, the company is planning to launch a diesel version of its much popular compact hatchback Chevrolet Beat. It is expected that the diesel-run Chevrolet beat model will be rolled out in the Indian market by the end of this quarter. The company reported a massive growth of 45% in its sales in July 2010, as compared to the sales of the same period last year. The July 2010 sales of the company include sales of 2244 units of the small hatch Chevrolet Spark, 1722 units of recently launched Chevrolet Beat, 1546 units of the MUV Chevrolet Tavera, 639 units of the premium sedan Chevrolet Cruze, 375 Units of starting range sedan Chevrolet Aveo, 240 units of Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, 225 units of the Chevrolet Captiva and 133 units of entry-level sedan Chevrolet Optra Magnum.
