GM skeptical to launch electric cars in India due to lack of infrastructure

General Motors, recently affirmed that the launch of their electric car is hindered because there is lack of necessary infrastructure in India. As per the VP of General Motors India, Mr. P. Balendran, General Motors have already proved the fact that this firm is loaded with latest technology. And the latest example of their technology is their electric car that was recently showcased in Delhi.

But the major problem that is hindering the launch of their electric car is the lack of infrastructure, particularly power. There is a huge shortage of power for the domestic purposes, so where would so much power come from charging the batteries of electric car. Therefore, General Motors India is a bit reluctant about launching its electric car.

Mr. Balendran also mentioned that General Motors India will introduce 5 more vehicles in next eighteen months in spite of Indian Auto Market going through a very rough patch. Recently General Motors India launched Chevrolet Beat Diesel in the country, which is receiving an awe-inspiring response.Soon after the Chevrolet Beat diesel was launched, General Motors saw an impressive growth of 34%. Last year, GM India sold around 1.1 Lakh cars and this year its aiming high and wishes to sell 1.4 lakh cars.

GM India is obviously aware of the sluggish growth of the Indian Auto Market and the major reasons are hiked interest rates and sky rocketing petrol prices. However, GM India told that the people are more inclined towards diesel cars these days. Therefore, electric car is out of the question. General Motors India has always received an overwhelming response in the country since the time of its entry in the market. GM India offers a huge range of products in the country, which include Chevrolet Spark, Chevrolet Beat, Chevrolet Aveo, Chevrolet Tavera, and Chevrolet Cruze.
