We all know that the globally recognized car makers are aiming to grab some market share of the Indian auto industry, and Great Wall Motors, China's largest SUV maker is the another one who is also planning to launch their products in our country. According to the report published on ET, the company is likely to be the first Chinese car manufacturer to set up a plant on the Indian soil. The firm studies the market to open the facility, and likely to start production by 2016 in Pune, Maharashtra.
Two people close to development told ET, the GWM will also launch its globally successful Haval H5 model in the Indian car market. The Chinese auto-maker was also considered Gujarat and Tamil Nadu to manufacture its products, but selects Maharashtra due to the number of incentives provided by the state government. "Great Wall has also taken into account Chinese government-owned Beiqi Foton Motor Company's decision to set up its commercial vehicles facility at Khed near Pune with a cumulative investment of Rs 1,676. The proximity factor is expected to help both the companies achieve back-end synergies," said a person having direct knowledge of the development.
The company has already sent a team of senior executives to India to operationalize a schedule to foray in the market. The final details and more information will be announced by the company in the near future. However, the project manager of the Chinese automaker, Xi Liang Chen has denied to comment on the Indian strategy. It is also speculated that the company will showcase Haval H5 and other GWM products at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo in New Delhi. Unlike other Chinese auto brands, GWM will be the first Chinese auto brand to operationalize in India without any support of other car makers.
