Honda recalls 833,000 cars to check faulty airbags in US

In order to ensure safety of its customers, Honda Motor Company has expanded the number of cars selected for recall. In this series as many as 833,000 cars have been reported to be recalled for checking the driver's airbags installed in them. Honda Motors will detect and replace the faulty airbags.

The extension was decided since the company came to know that faulty airbags may have been installed in Honda cars that came for repair after a crash. It was difficult to point which cars were installed with it and over 2,430 faulty airbags were installed. Out of the total recall, all the cars may not need a replacement but Honda seems to make sure that the faulty airbags are identified and replaced.

As per some reports, the airbags in the repaired Honda cars inflate upon an impact with too much velocity that could cause serious injuries or even could be fatal for the driver.

Honda cars that are recalled include Honda Accord and Civic manufactured in the year 2001, 2002 besides the 2002 make Honda Odyssey, 2002 and 2003 Honda CR-V and Honda Acura 3.2 TL and Honda Acura 3.2 CL models. The cars have been recalled to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Prior to this expansion Honda recalled as many as 4,000 Honda Accords and Honda Civic for inspection in November 2008. Sometime later Honda added another 378,000 cars to the recall and subsequently took the total number of recalls to 822,000. It is also learnt that the decision of an expansion came after Honda came to know about 11 injuries and one casualty due to the defective airbags.

Honda cars has scheduled to notify its customers about the latest addition to recall in late May by mail and will perhaps ask them to ensure that the airbags in their cars are replaced, said sources
