Hyundai envisions 50 m/gallon in the US
According to a recent report, Hyundai has given a statement saying that its entire product lineup in the United States would average at least 50 miles per gallon by 2025. If the company is successful in doing this, it will be a great achievement for it because there will be an improvement of about 60 per cent from the ratings of the cars and trucks that Hyundai sells currently.
John Krafcik, chief executive, Hyundai Motor America, commented that the goal was ambitious but he was very confident that the company could reach it. He further said that they do not know precisely how to get there right now but they do have a road map.
According to Mr Krafcik, Hyundai expects to use technologies which are available currently. He also sounded very optimistic about traditional fuel engines and further commented that the company imagines a picture of a 2025 lineup in which 75 to 80 percent of vehicles still ran on them.
Hyundai is already US's fuel-economy leader. According to the recent rules created last year, all the auto makers are required to do a better job for their fuel economy and have an average rating of at least 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016. Mr. Krafcik opined that they want to lead the auto industry in fuel efficiency and they are taking necessary moves towards it. Hyundai wants to set a projectile for the industry.
