Hyundai Motor India that sold 28,811 units in July got back its position as India's second biggest carmaker. One month back, the same position was lost to Tata Motors, a big rival of Hyundai Motor India. Last month, the domestic sales of Tata Motors stood at 27,864 units, even after the increased sales of Nano, post the beginning of its production facilities at Sanand, Gujarat.

In July, Tata Motors had sold 9,000 units of the Rs 1-lakh car. In June, the figure had reached 7,704 units. Tata Motors took the second spot in June when it was successful in selling 27,811 units. At that time, Hyundai Motors could only sell 27,3666 units. According to the figures released by both the companies, the domestic sales of Hyundai Motor increased by 24.22 % only while Tata Motors saw an increase of 62.08 %. The main reason behind the increase in Tata Motors’ sales was the good sale of Nano.

On June 2, Tata Motor had inaugurated Nano’s plant at Sanand in Gujarat and since then the company had surprised the Indian auto industry overthrowing Hyundai Motors which has got years-long stranglehold in the Indian market. As for the first position, Maruti Suzuki continues to be on top.
