CarDekho has been constantly updating you about Fiat's big dreams for India and plans of launching new vehicles including its iconic Jeep brand. Last year, we reported that the Italian auto manufacturers would launch the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler in the country, which was later officially announced by the company. The vehicles was caught in lenses a couple times earlier as well during its test rounds on the Indian roads. It seems like the launch of these two Sports utility vehicles isn't very far, and we expect them to hit Indian shores by the festive season (Dushera and Diwali).
Vishvesh Kare from Goaonwheels has spotted the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler (both petrol and diesel guise) during their test runs in Goa, India. The vehicles were spotted at some petrol station in Goa for re-fueling.
The Jeep Wrangler will be powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine, which is capable of belting out the maximum power output of 200bhp and 460Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Grand Cherokee will sport a 3.0-litre, turbocharged, V6 diesel engine that develops 237bhp and 550Nm of peak torque.
Fiat hasn't disclosed anything on the pricing of both vehicles, however, we expect that the Jeep Wrangler, more hardcore off-roader will cost around Rs. 25-28 lakh, while the urban SUV Grand Cherokee will be priced around Rs. 55 lakh to its buyers. Initially, the company will bring both these vehicles as completely built units (CBU), might go CKD after the launch of both vehicles.
The Italian auto manufacturer, which has revealed its plans of launching several new vehicles and brands in the Indian auto industry, also aims to launch a compact SUV by 2015 in India. Fiat's performance addition Punto Abarth is the other vehicle to be launched in India by 2013 end. The company has recently opened few independent dealerships, and plans to increase its dealership network to 100 by the end of this year.
