Mahindra and Mahindra is planning to roll out the new Xylo 4x4 model this year itself, says the recent auto media reports. These reports also indicate that M & M, India’s largest utility vehicle maker will also employ the advanced version of Borg and Warner system which will change it into part time 4wd system.
According to the sources, Mahindra and Mahindra is seeking to capture a sizeable marketshare in the MUV space in India and South Africa. That is why, the company is experimenting with models like 4wd Mahindra Xylo. However when the official spokesperson of the company was contacted, he said that they do not comment on such reports.
According to an auto enthusiast, if the model successfully adopts the new engineering system, it will make Xylo as the first 4x4 MPV model in the country. It could be like the one found on the Honda CR-V with a real-time all-wheel drive system. Through this, the system finds ways to provide maximum road grip and also the stability rather than off-roading traits.
M & M has invested more than US$ 100 million in the development of the Xylo. This investment includes the setting up of a new robotic body shop at its Nashik plant in Mahrashtra and also an additional trim line at the final assembly shop. For the new model of Xylo, over 200 dies and more than 1,000 new parts were developed. Xylo was first introduced in India in January 2009.
