The Indian auto major Mahindra & Mahindra which is selling its flagship premium SUV, the XUV 500 in global markets as well, has been reportedly working on a petrol version of the same car. But the company which is known for selling diesel SUVs in India will maintain that status here and won't launch the petrol XUV500 in the domestic market.
The engine to be fitted in the car is a 2.2-litre variable geometry turbocharged engine, which mated to a six-speed manual transmission has the capacity to churn out 138bhp and 330Nm of torque. Mahindra & Mahindra's President said that the petrol version would come in India, but when the need arises, as the Indian customers still prefer diesel over petrol for better fuel economy.
On the other hand, Mahindra & Mahindra is also considering to launch the compact version of its flagship sedan, the Verito possibly in the very first quarter of 2013. And recently launched compact SUV, the Quanto has already been doing great for the company, so all things suggest the company to do well in the coming year.
