Mercedes regains its numero uno position by piping BMW

In the initial seven months of the year with a good 79.31 per cent increase in sales, Mercedes Benz has become the top spot car maker in the Indian luxury car segment. The German luxury car maker Mereceds Benz has defeated the compatriot BMW in this race for the top spot.

Last year, Mercedes Benz was overturned from its number one position by BMW. In the January-July period, Mercedes Benz sold a total of 2,921 units as against 1,629 units in the same period last year, according to the data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.

On the other hand, BMW sold a total of 2,718 units in the seven-month period. In the same period last year, the company had sold 2008 units. With an increase of 33.78 per cent at 3,619 units in 2009, BMW became the top luxury car maker in India. In 2008, the company had sold 2,705 units. While in 2009, Mercedes Benz sold 3,247 units against 3,625 units in 2008. The two auto giants are constantly being watched by the industry experts who are still unsure as who would acquire the number one position at the end of the year.
