People who scrap their old cars will be eligible for a waiver of registration fee, and a reduction in tax on the purchase of a new car
Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road, Transport and Highways in the incumbent BJP government, has revealed that 26 automated fitness centres and vehicle scrapping centres have been sanctioned across the country. This information was revealed in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
The vehicle scrappage policy had been announced in the 2021 Union Budget. It was declared at the time that private vehicles older than 20 years and commercial vehicles older than 15 years would have to undergo fitness tests. Vehicles that fail to pass this test will be classified as “End of Life Vehicles” or EOLV.
