Nico Rosberg wins the Monaco Grand Prix

Its yet another one-two victory for the team Mercedes as Nico Rosberg finished first at the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix while his team-mate Lewis Hamilton came second. With this win, Rosberg gained four crucial points lead over his team-partner Hamilton in Formula One world driver championship. After the first six races, German driver Rosberg scored 122 points while Hamilton came second with 118 points.

At the Circuit de Monaco, it was Rosberg's second win for the season after the one in Australian Grand Prix. Nico Rosberg took 1 hour 49 minutes and 27.66 seconds to complete his 78 laps of 162 miles (260.5 kms) with an average speed of 229.82kmph. While Lewis Hamilton was 9.2 seconds behind his team-partner. Daniel Ricciardo of team Red Bull was just half a second behind the British racer while his team-mate Sebastian Vettel in his 100th race for Red Bull, retired after eight laps because of power unit problem.

After his fifth career win, Mercedes driver Rosberg said, “It's another special day for me, for sure.” He further added, “Lewis drove well and pushed me massively hard, the pressure was on but I kept it cool and pulled a bit of a gap at the end.” It was more of desperate try from Ferrari's Fernando Alonso as he fails to acquire even a third place at podium. Alonso scored 12 points after finishing fourth while his team-partner Kimi Raikkonen only managed to finish at twelfth position. Moreover, Force India's driver, Nico Hulkenberg scored 10 points by finishing fifth while his partner Sergio Perez retired due to an accident.

After finishing second at the race, the British driver on a post-race podium interview with Benedict Cumberbatch said, “It was just something that came through the visor. - it was nothing important,”. He further added, “It was a good day for us - it's very important for the team to get another one-two. I had great pace and I felt I was strong but it's incredibly difficult to overtake.”

In the team's tally, its Mercedes on top with 240 points followed by the Red Bull Racing-Renault with 99 points and Ferrari with 78 points. In driver's scoreboard, Nico Rosberg of Mercedes is on top with 122 points while his team-partner Lewis Hamilton is at second with 118 points ahead of Fernando Alonso of Ferrari with 61 points.

From the tracks of Monaco, the Grand Prix circuit now moves to Canada where the drivers will race to prove whose the best on 8th June, 2014.
