Modified On Oct 18, 2022 05:22 PM By Rohit for Nissan X-Trail

All three SUVs will first undergo localised testing to evaluate their market feasibility

  • Nissan has showcased three new cars in India: fourth-gen X-Trail, third-gen Qashqai and second-gen Juke.

  • The X-Trail is a full-size SUV (Toyota Fortuner rival), Qashqai is a mid-size SUV (Jeep Compass rival) and Juke is a compact SUV (Hyundai Creta rival).

  • The Juke, for now, was only put on stage on a ‘showcase’ basis for now.

  • All three models feature electrified powertrain options.

Nissan has showcased three SUVs from its global lineup in India: the fourth-gen X-Trail, third-gen Qashqai and second-gen Juke. The showcase of the trio comes as part of Nissan’s feasibility study to assess the Indian market conditions for its future product plans. This assessment will also help the carmaker review the possibility of localised production for domestic sales and export manufacturing, as well as exploring electrification possibilities.

Details Of The New Products

As part of this study, the carmaker will begin testing the fourth-gen X-Trail and Qashqai on our roads. The Juke, on the other hand, is only being showcased in India as of now. The X-Trail is a full-size SUV which will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster whereas the Qashqai is a Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson equivalent. The Nissan Juke, if launched in our market, will go up against the likes of compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, and Toyota Hyryder.

Which One Comes First To India?

Nissan will be bringing the fourth-gen X-Trail to India first via the completely built-up unit (CBU) route, post the feasibility study. The new X-Trail features a multitude of modern design touches including LED lighting and stylish alloy wheels. It will be loaded with premium technology including multiple digital displays. It’s powered by a 163PS/300Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine (with a 12V mild-hybrid tech on board) or a strong-hybrid powertrain rated at 204PS (front-wheel drive) or 213PS (four-wheel drivetrain).

What About The Other SUVs?

While Nissan hasn’t confirmed the launch of the Qashqai or Juke, the former has a stronger possibility of entering India following the localised testing.

Nissan did share details about the Juke’s powertrains: a 1.6 litre petrol engine mated to an electric motor with outputs of 94PS from the engine and 49PS from the motor.

The Qashqai, on the other hand, has a 1.3-litre petrol engine (with 12V mild-hybrid tech), a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit and a strong hybrid option that packs a 190PS electric motor. The Nissan midsize SUV also gets a four-wheel drivetrain option. While a six-speed manual is standard, the Qashqai can also be had with an optional automatic transmission with the mild-hybrid unit.
