Renault Triber vs Maruti Swift vs Hyundai Grand i10 Nios vs Ford Figo & Freestyle: What Do The Prices Say?

The Triber sub-4 metre MPV prices and build bring it into contention with the likes of the hatchbacks too, lets see how the compare

Renault has entered a new niche with the launch of the new Triber MPV crossover. A sub-4 metre offering with seating for up to seven occupants priced between Rs 4.95 lakh to Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India).

The last row of the Triber gets a pair of EASYFIX seats which can be removed to increase the boot space to 625 litres in the 5-seater configuration. For reference, that’s more boot space than what the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV (550 litres) offers with its third row seats folded down.

Although the Triber’s closest direct rival is the Datsun GO+, its pricing makes it an alternative to mid-size hatchbacks like the Maruti Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Ford Figo and Freestyle too.

The Triber is only available with a 1.0-litre petrol engine (72PS/96Nm) paired with a 5-speed MT. So we’ll only be looking at the prices of petrol variants (ex-showroom, Delhi) of its closest competitors:

Petrol

• The prices of Triber’s entry-, as well as top-spec variants undercuts all the hatchbacks, making it the only and most affordable 7-seater on this list.

• The Triber has the smallest and least powerful engine too when compared to the hatchback options listed above.

• All of the Triber alternatives get an optional diesel engine to choose from.

• Currently, Renault is only offering a 5-speed manual transmission with Triber. The AMT option will be launched later this year.

• The Swift and Grand i10 Nios come with the option of an AMT with their 1.2-litre petrol engines.

• The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios offers the most affordable automatic option in this company and it will be interesting to see how the Triber AMT’s prices fare against the former.

• The Figo uses a more refined 6-speed torque convertor automatic along with a larger 1.5-litre petrol engine, which makes it the most expensive variant here.

• The top-spec Triber is priced closer to the better-equipped mid-spec variants of its rivals.
