Tata Motors increased lease for Singur Plant

Tata Motors, one of India's leading car maker has increased the lease period for its land of Singur plant in West Bengal. Although the company had relocated its plant to Sanand in Gujarat due to a series of agitations from farmers.
The West Bengal chief secretary Ashok Mohan Chakrabarti said that the government is planning to take up the matter with Tata Motors to return the land to its owner, West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC). Tata Motors sent a cheque to WBIDC as an amount to increase the lease period of that land.
According to a state government official, the company has paid Rs 1 crore as lease rental to the WBIDC.
As per this agreement, Tata Motors will pay Rs 1 crore as a lease amount per year for the first five years of the lease, in total it has a 90 year agreement with the department.
Tata Motors is ready to be rolled out Nano from its newly established Sanand plant, in Gujarat. The company had decided to relocate from Singur (West Bengal) to Sanand in Gujarat after facing a series of political and farmer resistance last year. Besides the Sanand plant, the company is manufacturing the Nano at its facility in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand.
