The India based leading car maker Tata Motors has replaced Hyundai India from the country's second largest car maker's spot in the sales of June 2010. The company is now on the second spot after the country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki. Tata had recently inaugurated a new Nano production unit in Sanand Gujarat which played a significant role in increasing its total sales in this month . Company sold a total of 7704 units of Tata Nano in the Indian market during the month.
The total passenger car sales of Tata Motors stood at 27811 units in June 2010, which is just a few hundred units ahead of Hyundai's sales figure of 27366 units during the same period. Where the growth in terms of sales of Tata Motors was 63% during the month (over the same period last year), Hyundai India reported a mere 19% increase in its sales during the same period. Though the sales figures of a single month can not be considered the final verdict in the Indian market, but with the help of Nano, Tata Motors could repeat this performance more friquently or even throughout the year.
However, the top spot of the Indian auto market remaind unchallanged as Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki sold 72812 units during the month, which accounts for more than double the sales of Tata Motors in India during the month. Maruti India reportd a 18% increase in its sales during the month over the sales of the same period last year.
Moreover, General Motors and Ford India were among the other strong performers during the month, thanks to high sales of their recently launched compact hatches in India. Where Chevrolet Beat, which was launched in India in January this year, continued its strong run, Ford Figo remained among the top performers during the period.
