The Swedish auto maker known for its premium buses, Volvo has recently announced the beginning of the trials for the new low floor city buses known as Volvo 7400XL in Bangalore. The trials were flagged off by the Home & Transport Minister of Karnataka, Shri R. Ashoka from the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) Central Office. Also present at the occasion were the Senior Vice President of Business Region International of Volvo Bus Corporation and Chairman of the Board of Volvo Buses India, Mr. Akash Passey, and the Managing Director of the Volvo Buses India, Mr. Manish Sahi.

The Volvo 7400XL is the first multi-axle city bus with steered axle that the country is going to be treated with. This bus is capable of supporting a transport system that efficiently moves more people pretty quickly with less number of buses and less resource utilization. A whole new level and concept of comfortable and safe transport will be reached by this bus which first broke covers during Auto Expo 2012; the co-operation and initiative of the BMTC cannot go unnoticed and unappreciated. The Volvo 7400XL as the name suggests is an extra large bus that can carry more than 100 people at the same time and this property helps in saving fuel, emission and road space consumption on a large scale especially in growing cities at high occupancy routes. These buses are rendered a new and attractive body design.

The steered tag-axle of the car helps in graceful maneuvering on tight turns and city traffic. The new buses are high on safety features as well due to the presence of roll stabilizers, EBS, powerful discbrakes and new PX suspension system. The body of the bus is made as a tubular structure which has been built to live up to the anti-roll over standards. The bus has also been provided with low entry in the middle as well as the front which ultimately makes getting on and off from the bus very convenient. Powering this highly efficient bus is the 7.0L diesel engine with a turbocharger and intercooler from Volvo that is capable of pumping out a peak power of 290bhp. The engine is also known for imparting outstanding drivability, excellent fuel-economy and environmental friendliness to the vehicle.
