There have been a lot of good things happened this week in the Indian automotive industry, which has showed us an all new picture and dimension that what shape the industry as a whole might get in the future. And what has made us believe on this is, the launch of the compact SUV, Renault Duster that has been successful to frame an all new segment somewhere between the Sedan and the SUV. Secondly, the launch of Mahindra's Bolero Maxi Truck in 'power-steering option', once again depicts us the future picture of Indian LCV segment. So on a happy note, We bring to you the quick review of all the major happenings covered by CarDekho this week.
Mahindra Reva NXR to Launch by End of This Year
Since the generation next Reva named, the NXR was showcased earlier at this year's Delhi Auto Expo, a lot of rumours and speculations were spread about its launch date, but when we contacted to our sources at Mahindra, they made it very clear that the launch would take in the last quarter of the current financial year, not anytime before that.
After Alto 800, Maruti Suzuki Making News with its 800cc Diesel Engine
We recently broke the news about Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, test mules for which we caught on camera last week. Following the same is another news flash from the eminent house of Maruti. If rumors are to be believed then India’s favorite, Maruti Suzuki might bring an 800cc diesel engine soon enough, as well. The new engine has been codenamed E2 and is still under the scalpel in Suzuki’s plant in Japan. The speculations are that the diesel engine will be capable of producing a power of 40bhp and a fuel efficiency of 25kmpl-30kmpl.
Tata Megapixel Wrapped off at Goodwood Festival
After showcasing the concept car, Tata Megapixel previously at Geneva Motor Show 2012, it made its debut in the UK at the Goodwood festival of speed. Both the Pixel and Megapixel are especially built for the European markets. Prakash Telang, MD, Tata Motors, said that the all new Megapixel is the outcome of the work done progressively on the Pixel. He further cleared that Europe will get the all new Pixel not the Nano.
Skoda to bring back the Octavia brand name
After tasting success with its very first-model— the Octavia— in India, Skoda decided to introduce the newer generation Octavia under a new brand name Laura. With this, the company continued to sell the Octavia and the Laura. The Czech-based automaker introduced a facelift version of the Laura in 2009 and the Octavia got phased-out when the BS-IV emission norms were implied. Now, our sources confirm that the new Laura (Octavia as it is known worldwide) will make a debut next year.
CarDekho's June Car Sales Analysis
Cardekho did a reserached analysis on the number of cars sold in the month of June, this year and concluded that despite the increase in the petrol price, Indian automotive has witnessed a rise of 9 percent. Having sold the highest units, Maruti Suzuki India has once again come out as the market leade.
175 units of Mercedes-Benz M-Class Sold in First Month
Mercedes-Benz India has been successful in maintaining its growth trajectory in India, with 10% growth In June. The key growth driver for the company has been the all new Mercedes-Benz M-class, which was launched in the month of May this year. A total of 175 units of this premimum beauty have been sold.
Renault Duster Launches at Rs. 7.19 Lakh
The much awaited launch for which everybody had been looking for months, the Renault Duster took place on July 4th in both diesel and petrol engine options. It came out with a total of 8 variants, which were priced between Rs 7.19 lakh and 11.9 lakh.
Renault Duster launched, how does it fare against competition?
Renault has launched the Duster at a jaw breaking price of Rs 7.19lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the petrol version, while the diesel range starts at Rs 7.99lakh. Now, the range topper Duster diesel comes for Rs 11.29lakh— which isn’t a very rationale affair. The oil burner will be the pick of the lot, as not many will inclined to buy the petrol version.

Renault Scala, Renault's Version of Nissan Sunny

The Renault's version of Nissan Sunny will be named as the Scala and will have some cosmetic changes to make it more aggressive in looks. It is expected to be priced higher than that of the Nissan Sunny.
Fiat 500X Previewed Officially, Might Come to Indian Shores
CarDekho inscribed it a couple of months back that the Fiat is working on to develop a compact crossover namely Fiat 500X, using the platform of 500 hatch, which will debut by 2013. And now at the launch ceremony of the 500L MPV in Italy, the Italian auto giant, Fiat Automobiles previewed this newest Member of the 500 range.
