It finally has its own identity along with a set of features which makes its Dzire-able

Maruti Dzire

The new-generation Maruti Dzire was launched recently and it has just entered the CarDekho garage for a long term test. The subcompact sedan has gone through a major makeover which includes a new design, more features, and even a new engine. After spending some time with it and driving it for a month, here are our first impressions.

Its Own Identity

Maruti Dzire Front

The Dzire does not remind you of a cab anymore, and that’s a big deal. Maruti is still selling the last-gen Dzire as cabs, but this new one is not being offered for commercial use. Till the last generation, the Dzire was associated with taxis, and it looked like an extended version of the Swift. While that was true, it is not anymore.

It has drifted away from the hatchback in terms of exterior design, and it finally has its own identity. Also, this new design just works. The design is neat with subtle chrome touches, it looks more premium than it used to, and it has become more appealing.

More Tech

Maruti Dzire Dashboard

Similarities with the Swift begin as you step inside and see that the cabin layout is the same as the hatchback. However, the colour scheme has been carried forward from the last-gen Dzire to make a distinction. Another distinction between the two is in the feature set, as the Dzire gets a few more features than its hatchback sibling.

Maruti Dzire Sunroof

Charging is made easy with the help of a wireless phone charger, which you do get in the Swift. But, the Dzire additionally offers a 360-degree camera with pretty good camera quality, and a single-pane sunroof has also been added to the mix. The one thing I liked the most is the new screen, which runs smoothly, is lag free, and supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Slightly Underpowered?

Maruti Dzire Engine

Apart from the design and the added features, another big change that came with this update is the new engine. The older 4-cylinder unit is gone, and it has been replaced by a new 3-cylinder unit. This engine has its pros and cons, and you’ll feel them instantly.

The good thing about this unit is that it has been tuned for better city drives. You can drive in second or third gear inside the city easily without having the need to change gears more often. The power delivery at city speeds is also better, which makes the drives easier. Another benefit of this engine is better fuel efficiency.

However, as soon as you get on to the highway, you’ll notice that it does not feel as powerful as the outgoing engine. Getting to high speeds takes some time, as the acceleration isn’t as quick as the older model. The Dzire’s fun-to-drive experience has taken a toll at the cost of better city drives.

In the next few months, we’ll get into the nitty-gritties of living with the new Dzire. Stay tuned to CarDekho for more updates.
