What engine and transmission does the BMW M5 offer?
The new M5 gets a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine paired with an 18.6 kWh battery pack and an electric motor, making it a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV). The power output of the engine is rated at 585 PS and 750 Nm, while the electric motor delivers 197 PS and 280 Nm. They together generate 727 PS and 1,000 Nm. This hybrid system is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and a fully variable and rear-wheel biassed all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. Plus, the new M5 can be driven for 69 km (WLTP) at a maximum speed of 140 kmph in an EV-only mode.

The next-gen M5 can go from 0 to 100 kmph in a claimed 3.5 seconds, while it takes 10.9 seconds to reach 200 kmph. The car provides a top speed at 250 kmph but this can be increased to 305 kmph with an optional M Driver’s package.

BMW has outfitted the new M5 with multiple airbags, electronic stability control with extended contents, M dynamic mode, cornering brake control, condition based service, ABS with brake assist, ISOFIX mounts, and M compound brakes. Also on offer is Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with standard features including rear collision warning and lane departure warning with assistance.
