Overview
The Chevrolet Beat came in as a breath of fresh air in 2009 It looked funky, packed in quite a bit of kit for the time and was peppy enough for the city too. Sadly, Chevrolet hasn’t done much to update the Beat over the years. Other than a minor facelift that got updated bumpers, practically everything has remained identical since launch. Verdict
The Chevrolet Beat is a nippy runabout for the city thanks to its tiny footprint and light steering. We’d pick the diesel for its superior mileage, and power.
That said, the hatchback is due for an upgrade pretty soon, which is likely to bump up its kitty of features substantially. If you need a quick little hatch for your errands, the Beat needs to be on your consideration list.

Purchased in 2010 July, the car has been excellent mate in terms of a single-handed drive. Its been a true companion on highway driving, in 42 degrees temp of Gujarat, where many other premium cars also fail. I have BEAT Diesel car and it crossed almost 75000 KM running , But now I have started facing lot of problem 1] Engine is consuming oil , I have to replace it every 5000 KM 2] though I have new battery Engine starting problem has started . 3] Pickup has started drooping very badly. 4] Very high maintenance cost as I have paid more than 2 lacks in servicing in 5 years 5] Service stations lack good technicians to identify problem, they only know how to quote high servicing bill by replacing parts and loot money specially in Bangalore . May 18, 2017: Note: Chevrolet India will discontinue sales of all of its products in India effective December 31, 2017. Its Indian facilities will be utilised for export markets only.
Chevrolet will launch the updated Beat hatchback in India in July 2017. Once launched, it will renew its rivalry with the Ford Figo, Hyundai Grand i10, Tata Tiago and the Maruti Suzuki Ignis. In January this year, we spied the upcoming 2017 Beat, completely undisguised, inside-out. The thoroughly updated hatch will share the platform and a few of its body panels with the current Beat. The dashboard is also borrowed with subtle changes and features a dual-tone layout – black and beige with silver and chrome accents – unlike the current all-black layout. The highlight on the inside is the addition of Chevrolet's latest MyLink infotainment system, which supports both Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto (probably a seven-inch unit). We expect the automaker to launch the 2017 Beat clan, which include the Beat Essentia (compact sedan), Beat and the Beat Activ (cross hatch) in the first half of 2017. Also, these cars are expected carry over the current set of engines, likely with a slight retune.
The outgoing Beat is available with two engine options – 1.2-litre petrol (four-cylinder) and 1.0-litre diesel (three-cylinder). The petrol puts out 77.9PS/ 106.5Nm (ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 17.8kmpl) and the diesel churns out 57.1PS and 142.5Nm (ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 25.44kmpl). Both the engines come mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
