Riding on the success of the Beat and the Cruze, Chevrolet India introduced the Sail hatchback and sedan replacing its aged U-VA and Aveo. The Sail hatchback has been here for a while and now the Sail NB makes its entry. We were impressed with the space and comfort of the U-VA and we were expecting the NB to be more pampering with extra features and comfy. We take a quick spin in the Chevrolet Sail NB to find out how good is the new Sail NB.

- I LOVE MY CHEVY SAIL
Loved my Chevy Sail in first look named it as Maverick. Wonderful, spacious, perfect family car. Looks like younger brother of Muscular Chevy Cruze. I myself designed and customized added some external graphics and a Sporty spoiler and made it to look like a Sporty Sail. My first test drive with Sail was thrilling experience and still unforgettable. After thorough comparison and test drives with Honda Amaze, Maruti swift & D-zire, I finally decided to go for Chevy Sail with its Prize, Looks, Space, Features, Engine performance and more importantly Customer value and support. Final on road prize in Delhi when I purchased was 6,05,000/- for SAIL LS Model which was more featured and very less prize when compared with the above rivals. Thanks to 1.2 l SMARTECH Petrol engine with 83.6 PS(61.5 kW) of power and 108.5 Nm of torque makes this American Hulk more muscular. Mileage and performance wise it's simply awesome. Till the date I have driven for 35000 kms in 3 years mostly on highways. Already 4 services done and the mileage on highway with AC is 18 and in city 16. The best part in this car is though it is so powerful it's very calm inside the cabin. Maximum speed I pulled was 145 kms and amazed to see NO vibrations and shaking of steering. Purchasing from Chevrolet Auto Vikas was really good experience they offered me all the genuine GM motor accessories and services like Reverse parking sensors, Gear lock, Tuflon coating, Engine and under carriage coating, Floor carpet mats, mud flubs just for 6000 bucks. My first long ride was the next day of purchasing from N.Delhi to Gandhinagar on NH-8 around 950km in one stretch with family. Pleasure, comfort driving and Memorable trip it was. From Gandhinagar to Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh and back I had driven 5 times with family on (NH-4/AH-48) And in one trip we had been to Ooty via Mysore. Riding on hill stations, hair pin curves was really awesome. Power steering is one of the best part I loved in this car. Turning radius, smooth and effort less power steering make this car ride with more comfort. You will love to ride in hills. Again with 5 adults and with full luggage in the boot we went to Mt. Abu. Sail managed to pulled up all over the hill with AC effortlessly. When comes to boot space it has superior space. Though my sail is Non ABS it still has very descent braking system. When comes to servicing part Chevrolet, Gallops motors, Gandhinagar took intensive care of my buddy. Starting from first service and till date all the services and records were maintained by these people. Timely servicing reminders, Oil and parts changing were done with extreme care. Till date other than Gallops motors, Gandhinagar I never required any other service station for problems and repairs. Also I added 2 years extended warranty before completion of third year with 15% additional discount given as anniversary offer at Chevrolet, gallops motors. Finally, I strongly recommend Chevrolet Sail undoubtedly for someone looking for 1200 cc Sedan segment. Read More
- Quicker pickup & Faster braking in its class , trouble free!
I am an infrastructure & earth moving, works contractor. my job demands lot of travel and mostly to stone quarries and work sites ,where you seldom find good roads. I have been using the Chevrolet Sail 1.3 LT ABS , since 3.5 years and clocked 130000 KMS . I find this car is very responsive, rugged , comfortable and economical to maintain ( I used synthetic oil after 50000 kms, total service cost till date is Rs.18,600 inclusive of synthetic oil ) . my travel include climbing steep hills and quarries, long distance travel on pot hole filled roads , driving around for routine inspection at dust fill ed mining work sites. I can share you photographs or witnesses of my claim. the only negative issue i encountered is with the front tyres wearing out very fast due alignment issues, the Dealer in my location closed down operations of 5 service centeres in kerala. since i travel to other states a lot I get my car serviced from other chevorlet service centeres, i prefer the chevorlet sail 1.3 to the latest 1.2 chevy. my verdict is "responsive, comfortable ,economical and beautiful car". - Chevrolet Sail - Baby Cruze
Exterior - Looks like a Curze, may be we can call it mini-Cruze. Good in edges and curves. Head lamp and tail lamp are different as compared to other sedans. Chevrolet badge looks stunning and appears like a luxury car. Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) - It has a really good space and comfort. I had a test drive of Zest, Swift and Amaze, which are not good for long drives, however sail has more space and good for long drive too. New sail looks more luxurious when compared to old sail. It gives an elegant look. Engine Performance - I liked its fuel economy and Gearbox. I did not face any problem on engine and brings out the mileage of 14 kmpl with AC on. Ride Quality & Handling - It is smooth to drive and you feel like driving a luxury car. Handling is also good. Final Words - I suggest Sail is best among Zest, Dzire, Amaze and Xcent. Instead of buying compact sedan with less space and comfort, please go for Sail. Its a family car with royal look. Areas of improvement - Proper Customer service on showroom. Read More
- Mileage - 18 KM/L - You can only dream to have this mileage from Sail sedan
Look and Style: Worth as compared to Price. Comfort: Good legroom, car is meant for 5 persons. Pickup: To enhance the mileage, I was advised to drive below 1.7 RPM. So what they claim can't be achieved in this vehicle. Mileage: 10 Km per litre. Right from the day of purchase, I never got the average more than 10. When informed Service Dept, they guided me how to fill up the tank. They said that this vehicle tank is in front. After one month, they called me to verify the mileage. The tank was filled four times in a gap of 1 minute. They said this is the way to fill up the tank. Once it was filled, their person drove in almost an empty road. We drove for 50 KM and filled up the tank again. It was again filled up for 4 times to fill up to its head. The average was 21km. Crossed the company reading!!! There were so many conditions for getting this average. One of them was to drive below 1.7 RPM. I drove again and put 40 litres every time in a gap of 10 days. And never I got the mileage above 10. Then they advised me that after first service, it will improve. But the average is same, not above 10 km. Don't ever go for Sail vehicle. For cost reduction, the vehicle is deprived of many such facilities, which you can find in even a NANO. Best Features: A car with a design of HONDA City, with less price. But the features like the sheet of the body, even the dust on the road if it strikes the body there is a sound. Needs to improve: Mileage, Body sheet, Clutch system, Gear-box. Overall Experience: It is not worth, for few thousands more or go for some other vehicle. Read More
- Stand out in the crowd
Look and Style: I recently purchased Sail LT ABS version, Sandrift Grey colour. Looks macho and gives a pucca sedan look from outside. When you get into the cabin, its really spacious and can easily fit in 3 adults at rear seat. When compared to other entry level sedans in market, Sail looks very stylish and attractive.Recent updates to the exterior makes the car look a premium one eg;Blacked out B pillar, Chrome finished fog lamps, and Chrome line on boot lid. Comfort: I recently had a drive from Bangalore to Mysore during which I did not become tired or felt uneasy even for a minute. Its a pleasure driving this car. Engine is so smooth and you wont hear any grunt or noise while driving. My parents at rear seat said that they had plenty of leg and shoulder room and they did not get travel fatigue. Even you have little space below the rear seat to hold kit bags. Steering was very responsive inside the city as well as on highway. Bucket type seats provide great stance for passengers and liked it much. Adjustable head rests at front row is a plus. The oddly placed power window switches turned as a convenience to me now :) Pickup: When it comes to pickup, Sail slightly takes a backseat. But, family person like me would not mind this as it responds decently in traffic but I had to put some effort on highways to speed up the car. This is due to the overall weight of the car, as it is obviously a bigger and spacious one when compared to other tiny sedans in market. Once I rev up the car for few secs it gradually gains speed and gives nice performance. Personally, I preferred this car as i was already aware that this has slightly less pick up because cars with lesser pickup will not comsume more fuel :) Mileage: I have not noted it down. But did full tank once and felt that it lasted long enough. Have to wait and check further. Best Features: Looks, Space, Ride comfort, Audio, A/C, Boot space Needs to improve: Engine performance for lovers of racy driving Overall Experience: Very satisfied till now and feeling unique by having Sail..Read More
