The carmaker has achieved the feat within five months of the SUV’s launch

  • Tata launched the Safari in February 2021.

  • The SUV is offered in both 6- and 7-seater configurations.

  • It comes with a single 2.0-litre diesel engine with both manual and automatic transmissions.

  • Tata retails the Safari from Rs 14.99 lakh to Rs 21.81 lakh (ex-showroom).

The third-gen Safari was launched in February this year. The carmaker has now rolled out the 10,000th unit of the SUV from its Pune facility, a feat that Tata claims to have achieved in less than five months. And thanks to this, the carmaker says it now has a segment share of more than 25 percent.

One of the reasons for the SUV’s popularity could be its extended length and taller stance (compared to the Harrier) and the extra row of seats, with the highlight being captain seats in the second row (in the 6-seater version). Tata also launched the Safari in an Adventure Edition, giving it a few cosmetic enhancements to cater to buyers looking for a more rugged avatar of the SUV.

The Safari is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 170PS and 350Nm. Tata has mated this unit to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter. However, the SUV doesn’t feature an all-wheel drivetrain unlike the previous model.

Tata has priced the 2021 Safari between Rs 14.99 lakh and Rs 21.81 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV fights it out with the MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV500, Hyundai Alcazar, and the upcoming Mahindra XUV700.
