The 11th Auto Expo is an undeniable success as we almost come to an end of the event and there are no two ways about it. But, all the same there are certain issues that cropped up despite the extreme measures taken up by the organising committee.
So, there were two important decisions taken by the organisers after observing their well conceptualised preparations fall apart. One, they will opt for a different venue to accommodate the 100,000 odd visitors without any chaos and next is they will extend the Auto Expo to another two days.
This will help the organisers in streaming the crowd in much controlled manner says ACMA president Arvind Kapur. The visitors especially on the day two of the Auto Expo, i.e., January 6th were boundless and the history did repeat itself after all as seen at 2010 Auto Expo. Many participants at the Auto Expo have reacted strongly and even threatened to pull back for the next season.
As it is, the number of participants were down to 1500 as opposed to 2100 last season two years back. Another cause of concern as relayed by the top car manufacturers like Renault India, Fiat and some others were the overlapping of the dates with the North Amercian Auto Expo in Detroit which almost fell on the same dates to which Sugato Sen, the Director of SIAM responded that they are looking into the matter.
The Indian Auto Expo is the largest and the most focused automobile Exhibition in Asia jointly organised by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) which came into force way back in 1986.
It took six long years before it could see another dawn and recurred in 1992. Slowly, it fell into a certain pattern which we see today as a biennially occurring event in New Delhi. 18 car manufacturers from various countries took part in the
Auto Expo 2012 right from the luxury car manufacturers like BMW India who brought the Mini Cooper line-up to Indian for a debut to the largest car manufacturer of the country Maruti India which brought their first produce in the MPV segment with Maruti Ertiga. The other show stoppers were Tata Pixel concept, Tata Nano CNG concept, Ford EcoSport and Mahindra Reva NXR.
