Based on this concept, the next-gen SsangYong Rexton will go on sale in 2017
South Korean automaker SsangYong Motor Company has released the first official sketches of the next-gen Rexton concept – the SsangYong LIV-2 – ahead of its upcoming 2016 Paris Motor Show world debut. The LIV-2 (Limitless Interface Vehicle) will be the final concept of the upcoming all-new 2017 Rexton SUV, codenamed “Y400,” and is the latest iteration of the LIV-1 concept, which made its debut at the 2013 Seoul Motor Show. The Y400 aka 2017 Rexton will be launched next year in the European market, while its Indian debut is likely to happen later next year or early 2018.
The new 2017 Rexton is expected to stay true to the LIV-2 concept. The concept is based on the brand’s latest design language – ‘Dignified Motion.’ Mechanically, the next-gen Rexton will be powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine, which was introduced with the latest iteration of the current version of the SUV, along with a newly developed 2.0-litre GDi turbo petrol engine.
Reportedly, the 2017 Rexton is based on a brand new chassis. Though it will continue with the body-on-frame approach, it will shed nearly 50kg compared to the outgoing version. The upcoming SUV will be the first substantial upgrade of the Rexton since its inception in late 2001 and, after the Tivoli, is the second product made from the ground-up under the ownership of Mahindra & Mahindra. Stay tuned.
