Prices for the locally-assembled, second-generation Countryman start at Rs 34.9 lakh
Mini has commenced local production of the second-gen Countryman in India, prices of which were announced earlier this month (May 3, 2018). The Countryman is being assembled at BMW’s Chennai plant, which also produces the BMW X1 with which it shares its platform. Showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, the Countryman is offered in three guises - two petrol variants and a sole diesel variant, all powered by 2.0-litre engines.
Below are the prices of Mini Countryman variants:
Mini Countryman variants |
Prices (ex-showroom, Pan-India) |
Countryman Cooper S |
Rs 34.9 lakh |
JCW Inspired |
Rs 44.4 lakh |
Cooper SD |
Rs 37.40 lakh |
The second-generation Countryman has grown is size - it’s 200mm longer and 30mm wider than its predecessor. The increased length has enhanced the boot space by 30 per cent to a massive 450 litres, which is further expandable to 1,309 litres with rear seats folded. With a push of 75mm in wheelbase (2669mm), the Countryman now becomes the most spacious Mini on sale in India.
Powering the Cooper S and JCW Inspired variants is a 2.0-litre petrol engine which pumps out a max power of 192PS and a peak torque of 280Nm. The Cooper SD variant gets a diesel engine of similar capacity that produces 190PS and 400Nm. Both engines are paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The diesel engine returns an impressive fuel economy of 19.19kmpl, while the petrol motor has a claimed mileage of 14.41kmpl.
The dashboard of the Countryman is typical of any modern Mini. It gets a round 6.5-inch infotainment system taking center stage and comes paired with a premium Harman Kardon audio system. It’s a simple, classic and well-laid out cabin with no rush of buttons on the dash.
Features on offer in the Mini include a sunroof, electric seat adjustment with memory function, front and rear parking sensors, wireless phone charging, Mini Connected XL 8.8-inch infotainment system with navigation system (available with JCW Inspired variant only) and 18- or 19-inch alloys wheels.
The Mini Countryman competes with the likes of BMW X1 (Rs 34.5 lakh - Rs 44.5 lakh), Mercedes-Benz GLA (Rs 31.72 lakh - Rs 38.03 lakh), Audi Q3 (Rs 34.73 lakh - Rs 42.88 lakh) and the upcoming Volvo XC40 (expected Rs 43 lakh). All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.
