The second-gen A1 gets Audi’s virtual cockpit and MMI Touch infotainment system
Audi dropped the first ever teaser of the upcoming second-gen A1 on Facebook recently. The teaser suggests that the 2019 hatchback will debut in Barcelona in the following weeks. It is expected to go on sale in most global markets later this year.
Barcelona seems appropriate for its debut since the second-gen hatchback will now be produced in Spain at the Seat facility owned by the VW Group. The first-gen model was manufactured at Audi’s manufacturing plant in Brussels, Belgium. This facility is now preparing for the series production of Audi’s first-ever fully electric offering, the e-tron SUV, from August 2018.
Seat’s Martorell plant, which will be the new A1’s global production hub, also happens to be the first plant to debut VW Group’s MQB-A0 modular platform. The 2019 Audi A1 will likely to share this platform with cars such as the India-bound sixth-gen Polo, Virtus (second-gen Vento) along with the VW T-Cross and Skoda Vision X-based compact SUV. VW Group has currently commissioned Skoda to localise the MQB-A0 in India. This platform will be known as MQB-A0 IN. These features are already available on several new Audis such as the A4 along with the upcoming A6 and A8.

The second-gen A1 will share its components, equipment list and engine options with the sixth-gen Polo. Audi has already confirmed the 12.3-inch Nvidia-powered fully digital instrument cluster (Audi Virtual Cockpit) and MMI Touch infotainment system for the 2019 A1.
