The offroader’s biggest advantage over the India-spec model, despite being exported from here, is in the safety department
After waiting for many years, India finally got the Jimny, though in the 5-door avatar, in early 2023. And since October 2023, the 5-door Maruti Jimny has been exported to various international markets, and was recently launched in Australia as well. With the Australia-spec Jimny being the same 5-door model as the India-spec off-roader, you would believe that the two will be the same, right? Well, yes and no. Here are five key differences between the two:
Name
Where the India-spec model is called the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, the carmaker offers it as the Suzuki Jimny XL in the Australian market. That’s because Australia already gets the 3-door model bearing the regular ‘Jimny’ moniker. Suzuki also offers a more entry-level version called the ‘Jimny Lite’ in the Australian market which is essentially a stripped-down variant of the 3-door SUV.
ADAS
The biggest feature difference between the India-spec Jimny and the Australia-spec Jimny (XL) is that the latter is available with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). While its ADAS suite consists of autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning, it misses out on high-beam assist. The Jimny XL’s ADAS technology works based on the front-windshield-mounted camera, another feature that’s been skipped on the India-spec model, despite the model being exported from here to Australia.
Colour Options
Although both the India-spec and Australia-spec Jimny are available in single-tone and dual-tone options, there’s a slight alteration in the shades on offer. Here’s a look at their colours in detail:

While the carmaker has equipped both the models with the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, the output of the two is a little different, though we think you won’t notice it on the road. Here’s a look:
The Australia-spec Jimny makes 3 PS and 4 Nm less than the India-spec offroader. That said, both get two transmission options and a proper offroad-specific 4-wheel drivetrain (4WD).
No Base Variant For Jimny XL
While the India-spec model is available in two variants – Zeta (entry-level) and Alpha (top-spec) – the Australia-spec Jimny XL is sold in a single trim. Hence, customers in Australia can enjoy all the bells and whistles, including the 9-inch touchscreen and ADAS tech, of the offroader.
Prices
Maruti retails the 5-door Jimny from Rs 12.74 lakh in India and is also offering a new Thunder Edition (for a limited period) that has brought down its starting price by up to Rs 2 lakh. Its only direct rivals are the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
